Autumn Mysteries of Double Goddess, Demeter and Persephone, which took place on 29th October 2011, opened another cycle in which we will follow Persephone in her travel round the wheel of the year.

In the first part of the meeting we shared stories of our journey to the homeland of Goddess Demeter – the sun-bathed Crete. We talked about the discoveries and visions which we were able to decipher from caves, ancient temples, from the sea and the rock. It was also a story about meeting the double bee – Double Goddess, who helped us bring the vision to life, who offered us the key to life in abundance, full of sweetness.

In the second part we participated in the Mysteries, the ceremony of entering the myth, to experience the meeting with Double Goddess, Demeter and Persephone.

Mother Life - Demeter offers three gifts to her Daughter. The first one is the gift of life, gift of life’s sweetness. Together with Mother Life’s Daughter, each of us could feel safe and loved, could experience life in the Mother’s garden, where, beelike, we collect nectar and enjoy the honey, sweetness of life.

The second gift for the Daughter, and for us, was the gift of death’s sweetness. We could feel that death is something good, awaited, not an ultimate end, but a beginning of a new cycle.

I gave you birth so that you lived

The third, last gift is the gift of serpent power, the power of unity and finding one’s own name. The serpent power, which the Daughter, and we with her, received is the power of uniting life with death and death with life, light with darkness and darkness with light. I give you power, the serpent power, uniting the day hour with the night hour! To fully receive these gifts of her mother - Mother Life, the Daughter enters within: within her body and soul. She unites her body, soul and mind in the serpent, transforming dance. The Daughter dances on, and we with her, calling and revealing the serpent power of passing. In this amazing, energetic dance, the Daughter sheds the old skin, until there’s space for the new. The new name is born, the Daughter’s essence.

Thus PERSEPHONE is born!.

Serpent power is back, serpent power is back

Thus PERSEPHONE is born!

And we shed the old skin with her, everything that died and passed in our life this year.

Revealed Serpent-Persephone unites us in one living snake and leads to Mother Life, Demeter. Each of us receives from her the seed of life, to be taken to the Darkness, where it will die and be reborn.

Persephone’s serpent power is the one which opens the gates to the Darkness. In a long, translike song woven from airy vowels we can feel the gates open, ever so slowly.

Goddess Hekate silently invites us to the Darkness. Serpent-Persephone crosses the gates as a living spiral. As we wind tighter and tighter, to the centre, we can hear the voices of our ancestors greeting us:

You are not alone,

We’ve been here before.

In the Darkness we feed our seed with the power of death, so that new life can spring from it. Sweetnes flows along the spiral, sweetness of living and dying. We share it with our ancestors, we feed them with the sweetness we experienced in the passing year. Though the Mysteries are over, we remain in the time of Darkness – until winter solstice. United in a circle, united with our ancestors, we sing the song born from the Darkness:

From darkness appeared a swarm

Golden, golden bees.
